Bootcamp Experience- A Journey To Health

So tomorrow I start working out with Yun Fitness Bootcamps. It’s a free full month thanks to my good friend Jennifer who participated in the AFSP Community Walk with me. She won 2 gift certificates and gave me one.
I usually HATE working out… but I’m looking forward to this. From what I’ve seen, it’s never boring and it will challenge me. That’s something I never got working out on my own.
I’m curious to see how it will go. I have to be at work by 9am, so I chose the Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7am class. That means I have to get up by 6am. That’s a 45 minute workout, then I’ll drive to work and shower, get ready and have a full breakfast. I’m NOT a morning person, so just getting up out of bed will be a challenge for me.
I’m going to post my weight and measurements every week as I do this. I have a before picture, but because it is so bad, I will wait to post it until I have an after picture also. I’m already embarrassed about my weight and measurements, so feel privileged…
Current weight – 160 pounds
Current measurements -
Bust – 36?
Waist – 31?
Hips – 42?

So basically, since I was 25 years old, I have gained 30 pounds, 7? in my waist and 6? in my hips. YUCK. I MUST do something before it gets worse.
This isn’t just a change in my workout routine. It’s going to be a lifestyle change. I will be eating smaller meals 5 – 6 times a day, eating healthier meals, drinking more water, and getting up earlier. I will be a much healthier person in the end.
Here’s to a new beginning.

So this morning I started the Yun Fitness Bootcamp. Dragged my non-morning-person carcass out of bed at the butt-crack of dawn and got some comfortable clothes on. Drove out to Hilliard in 30 degree weather and got there at 7am. And got my ass kicked.
I walked in…. Met Jason, the head of the whole thing. He was very cool and supportive of everybody, and kept me motivated the whole time, even when I started getting worn out.
The exercises he had me do didn’t SEEM like much. That is, until I did them. Next thing I knew, I was working out muscles I didn’t even know I had.
I worked with things I had never worked with before. HUGE rubber bands that fit around my entire body, using them for resistance. Medicine balls. Kettle bells. And then we did some of the oddest looking exercises. By the end of it, I was HOUSED.
I was a retard and didn’t eat before the workout. I am so used to not eating until after, since all I really do when I have the rare desire to work out is get on the treadmill. Not a whole lot of challenge there. Sure I sweat a little and my heart rate goes up, but nothing major. These workouts, however, were INTENSE and HIGH IMPACT. My heart was pounding and the sweat was pouring down my back. After the first set I actually felt a little nausea. Jason grabbed me some water and I soldiered through the rest of the workout. I felt nauseated again on the way to work, but that went away quickly after grabbing some breakfast and taking a shower.
I could not believe it. I was worn out, but felt SO GOOD. I felt like I really accomplished something. I worked out the same amount of time I always did before, yet this was VERY different from before. I could feel a difference in my entire body. And unlike so many previous years in my life, I am actually looking forward to working out again on Wednesday.
Here’s to the beginning of me looking better naked.

I’m so frustrated. I worked out today at Yun Bootcamp and had to quit 15 minutes early because I started feeling sick.
I am SO SORE and it’s a real pain. Every muscle in my body hurts. Every step I take up stairs hurts. Hell, I can’t even sit on the toilet without it hurting! The past couple days, I found myself not getting up out of bed, but ROLLING out of bed instead. And this morning, I tried to do pushups, lift weights, etc… and kept having to switch to a lower impact version of the workout because I just wasn’t strong enough.
It’s annoying because I know what I want to do, but my body just won’t let me do it. I’m mad at myself for allowing myself to get so weak and out of shape. A lot of these exercises I was able to do in Jr. High when I was taking Phys Ed classes. Now it’s a challenge for me. I should have never let myself get this unhealthy.
On the positive side, I still feel good, even with the weakness, soreness, etc. I have slept better this week than I have in years. I have been in a great mood all week, and have more energy. I even get up early without hitting the snooze button. That alone is HUGE.
So, I’m trying to focus on the positive, that the soreness won’t last forever, that I will get stronger, and get healthier. I just need to be patient, because this doesn’t happen overnight.

I have been doing the Yun Fitness Bootcamp for a full week now, and here are my updated stats-
Weight- 159 pounds
Measurements-
Bust- 36?
Waist- 30?
Hips- 41?

Yep, that’s right… lost 1 pound and ONE inch in my waist and ONE inch in my hips! Woohooo!!!

So today I had my workout at Yun Bootcamp and for the first time I didn’t feel sick!
Also, I started feeling better over the weekend, and was showing Jared some of the exercises I was doing and was able to do them much more easily. So he challenged me… his 35 pound dumbbells were still in my car from the move, and he wanted to see how fast I could bring them to our apartment, one at a time. I took the challenge, and I was pretty quick. And the awesome thing was, I was able to lift them with one hand! Before I had to use two hands to pick up one of them. So that proved to me that I really am getting stronger.
Then this morning I was able to do a lot more and do less alternatives. And I’m starting to be able to get upstairs to my floor at work without huffing and puffing. It’s awesome!
I can’t wait until my next workout. I’m so excited!

I worked out at Yun Bootcamp again this morning, and I kicked ass!
I cannot get over how much more in shape I am in 2 weeks from this. I am able to do more than before, and push harder than before. And the crazy part is, I want to keep doing it. I actually look forward to these workouts. That is so new to me, because I always dreaded working out before.
I actually got to do a video testimonial for Yun Bootcamps yesterday. I was thrilled to do it. And Jason had us to a record challenge yesterday for squats… how many I could do in 90 seconds. I did 74! I remember when I first started… it was hard for me to do just 40. Now I’m doing over 70! I LOVE IT!
There won’t be bootcamp for the next couple weeks because of the holidays, but Jason said he will have home workouts for us to do. I still love actually going more than doing it at home. Can’t wait.
12/20
Weight- 162 pounds
Measurements-
Bust- 36?
Waist- 29?
Hips- 41?

So this is interesting… I have gained weight yet lost another inch in my waist.
But, muscle weighs more than fat. And I’m much stronger than I was two weeks ago. Not complaining.
….To Be Continued

Jaimee,
Great inspirational story. I too, love going to Yun’s Bootcamp. He challenges are muscles everyday. I have been coming to his workouts since April 09. My husband just complimented me the other day, telling me how toned my body is getting. I take everything one day at a time, and with Jason’s help, I will continue to be leaner and stronger. Keep up the great work! I hope to meet you one day at one of his bootcamps.
