Cupcakes For Dinner!
So me and my fiance journeyed to one of those popular discount stores a couple of weeks ago to pick up some needed household stuff.

It’s always an adventure at this place. But what we heard when we were in the checkout was both unbelieavable and shocking at the same time.
The lady in front of us had 3 little girls with her and was getting checked out. She had typical bathroom items and clothing. But she also had 3 cartons of cupcakes.
While the cupcakes were getting checked out, she told the cashier ‘I was originally going to make mac and cheese for dinner, but then I saw these (cupcakes) and said Yay, I don’t have to cook!’
What you talkin’ bout, Willis?

Did I just hear that right?
WOW!
I could not believe it! First all that someone would actually feed their kids cupcakes for dinner, but someone actually thinks that is okay.
It’s not okay. But I’m not here to preach how to raise kids. But kids don’t know any better. They learn from their parents, teachers, older siblings, and other adults. But parents most likely will have the biggest influence.
So it’s their job to teach kids what’s ok and what’s not. Otherwise they’re more then likely going to take those behaviors into adulthood.
About 1 in 3 children is consider obese or overweight. That’s from 2008. The numbers form 2009 is adults in the U.S is 27.4%. From 2007 to 2009 2.4 million people became obese.
Feeding cupcakes to kids as a meal should be against the law, in my opinion. She should know better. She was just being lazy, not wanting to cook for her kids– not that mac and cheese is good for you, but compared to cupcakes, it might as well be broccoli.
But the obesity trend in kids and adults is going to get worse before it gets better. Be smart about what you feed yourself and if you have kids be even smarter. And help educate them along the way.
I’m interested to hear your opinion on this cupcake fiasco. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

Jason,
Yes, i agree with you, this lady being lazy to cook.in my opinion kids health is more important of all. as a parent we have to find a way to feed them healthy food.

OMG – THANK IS GROSS. Cupcakes were considered a treat/reward – NEVER dinner…i appreciate my mother so much more now that she made we eat every last bite of my veggies and fruits. WOW – what has this society come too…
Ok, that is just sad that someone would really feed their kids cupcakes for dinner. I will be the first to admit I have had a bowl of ice cream for dinner or sour gummy worms, but I am an adult and it was my choice. I would never do that to kids. I always make sure that I feed my nieces and nephews a good solid meal when I keep them. I can not believe this is what it has come to, my Mom would have never even thought to give us cupcakes for dinner, they were a dessert and only if we ate all our veggies.
To me, acting so neglectful toward your children’s well being is a form of abuse. I don’t know if I could have kept from saying something to the lazy woman! Those poor children…hopefully they learn that eating junk is NOT the right thing to do. If they don’t, they are destined for a life of obesity and other health problems.
I LOVE your blog.
