Nutrition: The Rule of 90%

If you have been reading my newsletters you know I place a lot of emphasis on nutrition for achieving the body that you want. The way I see it, to get optimum results nutrition is 45%, rest/recovery is 35%, and exercise is 20%. Yup, I place exercise that low. Don’t get me wrong training is important. If any one of the 3 is missing you are not going to get results. But nutrition is obviously the most important.

With that being said, let’s move on to the Rule of 90% for nutrition. This is something I learned from John Beradi R.D, creator of Precision and Gourmet Nutrition.  I’ve included my version of it on the 2nd page. It basically is a grid that allows you to track how you’re doing with your meals throughout the day and the week.  It is a very helpful tool. Even I have trouble remembering how many meals I’ve eaten throughout the day, especially when things get busy.

What the 90% is? It basically is something that guarantees your success with food and drink. If you comply with your nutrition 90% of the time you will be successful at your fitness and body goals. It’s more for the general population. Competitive athletes or physique or figure competitors really need to be at 100% compliance to be successful. But you have other things in your life going on, and 100% is extremely hard to follow.

Getting to 90% will be hard also. Especially if right now you’re at only 50-60%. It will take time. You got to have the will to want it and the motivation to want it. It needs to become a habit in your life, for the rest of your life. Because good nutrition isn’t about only being good for 3-6 months and then stopping and going back to your normal ways. It’s a lifetime commitment.

And with a lifetime commitment to your nutrition you can expect to see dramatic changes in your health and body. You’ll have more energy, you won’t be sick as often, you’ll be more positive, and you’ll have more confidence because you will have a body that you love.

That’s what the grid can do. It can help you day-by-day, week-by-week. Use it. If you need more just make copies, or let me know and I can send you some more.
